The incident unfolded when witnesses reported a young man diving from cliffs into the reservoir and failing to resurface, prompting a search that concluded with the recovery of his body by a dive team around 9:05 p.m., according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
"This is a tragic accident based on our investigation, as multiple witnesses have provided consistent information," stated the sheriff’s office.
Seldon had recently joined Utah State's football program this summer after transferring from New Mexico State, where he played for two seasons under Nate Dreiling, now serving as Utah State’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator. Prior to that, Seldon had spent two seasons at Michigan.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own in the football program," said Dreiling. "Having known Andre during our time at New Mexico State, I can attest to his exceptional character and commitment as a teammate. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andre’s family as we mourn this profound loss together."
Dreiling assumed his new role following the dismissal of Blake Anderson earlier in the month due to university policy violations.
